Retired milking cows are still pregnant when sold to
slaughter. Calves are sometimes born at the slaughterhouse and have been
left to die from exposure or malnutrition. |
|
Downers – animals too
sick, weak, or injured to walk – are
often dragged and bulldozed to
slaughter, or left to die

This unwanted cow was unable
to walk into the slaughter auction ring, so she was dumped on a dead
pile of animals at the end of the day. The temperature was –20º F.
After suffering for hours she was found frozen to death.
